"Pal Fried, (1893-1976), Hungarian American artist, was born in Budapest and
studied at the Hungarian Academy under Professor Hugo Pohl and in Paris under
Claude Monet and Lucien Simone. Under Pohl's influence, he executed many
portraits, s and Oriental scenes in pastel. He was also greatly
influenced by the French Impressionist School of Renoir and Degas. His
works are listed in the Fine Arts Book."*
Paul Fried was a master at painting woman. They projected femininity and
looked beautiful without having an air of unreality about them. He favored
woman posing on beds, ballerinas, ready to go out and walking about town. Pal
Fried sometimes would paint a particular scene many times. Upon further
examination, some of the examples below which appear to be the same are
slightly different.
