About 10 years ago, a Japanese artist named Eriko Suzuki and I exchanged
email about Bettie Page. She loved her. Eriko told me she was intently
working on an art project which involved Bettie Page. I waited for
weeks. When I saw the final product, I was stunned and enchanted. I am a
fan of old Japanese woodblock printing and
Hiroshige
specifically for their design and coloring. For me, two wonderful worlds
met.
The first twelve scans are from a portfolio entitled "A dozen of
bettie". The next scan scan is Eriko's interpretation of a Charles West
photo. One image from "A dozen of bettie" (Bettie and Budda) was to be
published in "Juxtapoz" magazine but went to the wayside after an
unexpected change of editors. Then, it was to be published again in
"BettieMaePage Vol. 5" which keeps being delayed. So I decided to put
these on the pages of BettieMaePage so members can enjoy them now!
I recently have made contact again with Eriko and she offered three
pieces of "optical art" featuring Bettie Page. They are scans 013, 014
and 015.
